- Having a postpaid monthly account will be a different experience than prepaid. Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Credit check: To get the ball rolling, a credit check is required. All customers who sign up for Magenta go through this process.
- Deposit: You may need to make a deposit before your new monthly plan can be activated.
- Phone number: You can transfer (port) your current mobile number to your new monthly plan account, or you can start fresh with a new number.
Keep your phone or upgrade
When switching to a monthly postpaid account, you have a couple of options regarding your phone:

- If you'd like to keep your current phone, contact T-Mobile Customer Service so a T-Mobile rep can help make the switch easier for you.
- If you want to upgrade to a new phone, visit a T-Mobile retail store where a T-Mobile rep can guide you through the switch in-person.
At any time in your T-Mobile contract or prepaid service, you can request a replacement SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card. You will not be able to have two SIM cards registered to the same number at the same time. Once you order another SIM card, the previous one is automatically deactivated for security purposes. You can however, order a replacement card registered to the same phone number.
Step 1
Call your wireless provider. Make sure to have your account details such as account number, phone number, name and address. Ask for a replacement SIM card.
Step 2

Ask the agent to deactivate the other SIM card. At the same time, notify the agent as to whether the SIM card was lost or stolen.
Wait for the replacement SIM card to be mailed or if your wireless provider allows, you may be able to pick it up at a specific store.
Tip
- If your handset was stolen and you are calling in to get a replacement SIM card, make sure that the new handset you are putting the replacement SIM in has the name of your wireless provider on it.
